Just south of Far Sawrey, and a mile from Near Sawrey and Beatrix Potter's home Hill Top, perched high above the valley with views stretching across to Lake Windermere, Claiffe Heights and the village church, proudly stands the large mansion, Sawrey Knotts. Built in 1861 and once home to a Captain Dand, it is now a select number of beautifully converted apartments, each with its own character and charm.
Knott Cottage was once the stables, then the billiard room. Now it is a freestanding cottage, upside down in layout. With its excellent views, peaceful location and numerous local walks, Knott Cottage is perfect for two couples holidaying together, or perhaps families with older children looking for a base from which to venture out and explore the Lake District.
Four steps lead up to the hallway, with plenty of hooks for coats and anoraks, and a small utility room with washer and freezer. You then enter into the main living area - it's massive with high vaulted ceilings crisscrossed with original beams, windows everywhere, adding to the sense of space and light.
On the left is a wooden floored area with modern kitchen units. The well-appointed kitchen benefits from with electric oven & hob, dishwasher, fridge & microwave. There are also stunning views south towards Windermere and Gummer's Howe. The dining table, which seats four, has views across to the woods and surrounding fells. At the far end of the room is the welcoming sitting area which enjoys comfortable seating, TV, DVD and wood-burning stove.
Stairs from the living area leads down to the sleeping accommodation.
