Within walking distance of Far Sawrey, home to Beatrix Potter's Hill Top and good pubs, perched above the valley and providing views across to Lake Windermere and the fells on both shores, stands the large country house, Sawrey Knotts. Built in 1861 and once home to a Captain Dand, it is now a collection of beautifully converted apartments, each with its own character and charm.

Sitting high above Sawrey Knotts, looking down on all around is Tower Cottage. It looks like a castle but in truth is an old Victorian folly, complete with castellation. Park in your own bay and climb the 25+ slate steps up to a large wooden veranda. From up here, you feel like master of all you purvey, gazing over the panorama below - the local woods and hills, Windermere and the fells east and west of the lake. What a glorious spot for relaxing and enjoying life, hopefully while basking in sunshine!

Tower Cottage is a cottage with a difference - your own castle really. You'll find it hard to beat the views from its veranda or to match its central location, ideal for exploring the countryside around, making it great for couples, friends and families.

Ground floor
Entrance into the kitchen/diner; wooden beams and slate floor complement a fully equipped modern kitchen with electric cooker, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, washing machine & tumble dryer. A large bay window with bench allows you to take in the views from inside if the weather is inclement. There is also a shower room with W.C just off the kitchen, great if you've returned home a little muddy.

The living room has a large slate fireplace complete with stove and comfortable sofas to enjoy the fire, the view or both. There's a TV & DVD too if you ever bore of the aforementioned view.

First floor
A wooden staircase leads up to two bedrooms, both providing Lakeland views and en suite bathrooms. Please note one side of the staircase is open so care must be taken with children.

Bedroom 1 - double bed, lake views, en-suite bathroom with shower & W.C.
Bedroom 2 - king size bed (or twin 2'6" single beds), lake views, en-suite W.C & wash basin.

Customer Comments

This was our first trip to the Lakes....Tower Cottage was perfect for a couple of couples and even 3 dogs!Fully equipped (felt like home!), comfortable and cosy. Be warned that the stairs leading upstairs to the bedrooms are fairly open - no banister on left side. The stairs leading up to cottage were not a problem for us but may be for some - not suitable for disabled. Views gorgeous, and theres a lovely pub 5 mins walk away too.

We stayed at Tower Cottage, Sawrey Knotts with 2 friends,The cottage itself is great but be warned the steps are steep. However, if you are fit, healthy, love the lakes, the views and don't mind a steep stone staircase to and from your front door its a great cottage!Accommodation itself was great - lovely facilities, comfy beds, duvets and pillows etc. Kitchen well equipped.I would highly recommend it for couples or families with older kids but would say book with caution if you have babies/ young kids/ mobility issues or dogs. We had a great time and would definitely come back in the future!

Stunning lake views, wonderfully clean and tidy, comfy and cosy. Lovely and peaceful with excellent access to the car ferry over to Bowness and 15 minutes drive to the gorgeous, fairytale village of Hawkshead. Highly recommend a stay here.
