- Beautiful period property
- Perfect for families, groups and friends
- Fantastic location
South of Coniston is the pretty village of Torver. As you come into the village from the north, you turn right up a single-track lane, which winds its way up the fell side. At the fork you veer left down a dirt road until you come the first gate and the private drive of High Park Cottage. From here you can see the magnificent whitewashed detached cottage, perched on the fell slopes with forests behind, commanding a view across the village and valley beyond. You pass through another 5-bar gate and discover a little green iron gate that leads to a pretty kitchen garden and the backdoor.
Through a washroom with its Belfast sink and tiled floor, excellent for disrobing of outdoor gear, into the modern kitchen. Though it has all mod cons, it also has a real rural feel - cup racks, bread bin etc. From here you can go into the second living room, which would make an ideal bolt hole for family members to escape one another, either children from parents or vice versa, or even grandparents away from everyone! A patio door leads out to a terrace the length of the house, with easterly views across the valley. The garden has manicured lawns and a monkey-puzzle tree stands tall. What a perfect spot to sit and relax, watch the wildlife, like the local woodpeckers and cuckoos (or your little wild ones!) enjoying the garden. From the second living room there are stairs up to double room and en suite, making this part of the house a standalone annex if needed.
A period tiled hallway leads from the glassed front door and takes you either to a spacious dining room or into the main living room - relax in comfort, enjoy the open fire or gaze out the sash windows at the views. Big wide stairs at the end of the hallway lead you up, past a window seat halfway, looking out over the lawns, to a large landing. Here you'll find a massive bathroom, bathed in colour, from light pouring through the stained glass window. An equally massive bath and walk-in shower match the size of the room. Two double rooms look out across the valley and farmlands below, tastefully decorated, with wooden floors and big beds.
High Park is a unique cottage - high levels of comfort and a real home from home feel, all in peaceful and beautiful surroundings. Once visited, never forgotten.

|We came to your cottage from Australia and it was great to stop travelling and just be. I loved waking up the first morning to lean on the sunny windowsill. Everything was so peaceful. In the field below, sheep nibbled the green grass and young calves played. After breakfast, we wandering along the nearby lanes and were amazed at the number of styles and public footpaths. Each path called us over the wall to adventure. Every day we took a new route and gave our legs and lungs a good workout. We discovered a leafy path through the woods to Coniston Water where ducks bobbed among the ripples and gentle waves lapped the shore. We crossed rushing streams over old stone bridges and climbed up to the open moors where we could see forever. Each evening we came home tired and happy to share a meal and curl up by the fire. I love books and it was fun scanning your shelves to pick one to read. The separate bedrooms and living areas meant we could stay up as long as wanted, or sleep in. Then get together in the morning to chat over breakfast and plan the next adventure. Next time I come, I’m looking forward to having a lazy bubble bath. Or perhaps spending a bit more time sitting on the patio, or lying on the lawn, just watching the clouds sail by. Thanks for sharing your beautiful home with us.|

|“A stunning cottage in a beautiful place!”
We recently stayed at High Park Cottage for a week prior to an exhibition I was organising at nearby Brantwood. The first thing you notice is the amazing location, with the house nestled in the hillside and the “Old Man of Coniston” as a backdrop. The view from the front of the house is of frolicking lambs, green fields and old dry stone walls and the small hamlet of Torver in the distance. In fact it was very convenient to be able to walk out of the house, down the little grassy lane to the local pub without having to worry about driving back!
The house itself is beautifully decorated and has lovely fittings and furnishings without being hotel like. It felt like home from home and it was always a pleasure to relax in the large sitting room in the evenings and read in front of the real open fire. We loved the wall colour and the artworks. The owners must be creative given artistic the flair of everything. There is a choice of two sitting rooms. The other one had a wood burner. The size of the cottage means it can comfortably accommodate quite a few guests. Our bedroom was a very good size with plenty of wardrobe space and the bed was very comfortable. The large bathroom is beautiful and contemporary with the walls painted a lovely shade of blue which complimented the amazing stained glass window. The bath was big and the perfect place to soak away the aches after a long days walk on the fells.
High Park Cottage is fully equipped to a very high standard with everything you need and more. This is a wonderful place to get away from it all. We were struck by the peace and tranquillity, the only sounds being birdsong from the beautiful garden.
The problem with staying here is that on the day you are due to leave you wish that you could stay longer. We would highly recommend this as a perfect place to stay in the Lake District.
