6th December 2013 - Prepared for Winter

Luckily we have not been affected by the high winds and floods here at The Coppermines, however we are now fully prepared for winter ... We have had 8 tonnes of Cheshire rock salt delivered today .... making 20 tonnes in total! All we need now is a little



22nd November 2013 - The Coppermines Grizedale Stages Rally 2013

One of the highlights of the autumn here in Coniston is The Coppermines Grizedale Stages Rally when teams from across the UK and Ireland arrive for one of the most thrilling events in the Lake District.

Once again we are delighted to be sponsoring the rally and working closely with the organisers to ensure its sucess. As in previous years we will be offering free tackside hospitality to our friend, colleagues and guests staying in any of our cottages during the event.

With a line up of almost 50 cars including several World Rally Class Cars this is all set to be a fantastic event. Amongst the confirmed competitors for this year is M-Sport's Matthew Wilson who is entering in his Fiesta R5, the development model for 2014 (larger turbo) and also Elfyn Evans will be driving a Fiesta R200 which is the 2014 version of the R2 Fiesta.

Throughout the year a range of sporting events take place in our beautiful village. So if you fancy a challenge or know somebody who might, then take a look at the events below taking place in the next 12 months.

Here at the Coppermines we offer 3 night weekend breaks, perfect for pre & post event relaxation. However if the events below are a bit too strenuous then why not escape to the lakes and enjoy a spot of walking whilst taking in the breath taking scenery. Most of our cottages offer walks to the fells straight from the front door.

2nd November 2013 - Coniston Power Boat Records Week 2013

We are pleased to welcome back the Osprey Powerboat Rescue Team to one of our cottages that we have provided as part of our contribution to the sponsorship of the 43rd Coniston Powerboat Records Week.

The Osprey Powerboat Rescue Team is the only team of its type in the world to specialise in high-speed powerboat rescues and will be on red alert during the week long event.

31st October 2013 - New Cottage, Pebble Beck Cottage, Coniston

Pebble Beck Cottage is a lovely attached white washed cottage in Coniston village available for Christmas and New Year 2013.

30th October 2013 - A blustery October half term

It’s been a blustery October half term here in Coniston with choppy waters for the Steam Yacht Gondola on Coniston Water. Now running reduced sailing timetable until mid-November 2013.

29th October 2013 - What a game, Scotland win in Cumbria

Well done to Scotland! It was a thrilling game against Tonga for the Rugby League World Cup - at Derwent Park Stadium here in Cumbria.







23rd July 2013 - New Cottage, Hole House Cottage, High Wray

Beatrix Potter once lived in this lovely three bedroomed whitewashed cottage which dates back to the 17th century and is now owned by The National Trust.

Close to the beautiful Blelham Tarn, designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), Hole House Cottage is ideal for bird watching and fishing as well as walking. Walkers can enjoy the five footpaths that meet at the farm entrance.

Hole House Cottage is available from January 2014.

20th July 2013 - New Cottage, Rose Loft, Coniston

Located in the heart of Coniston Village, Rose Loft is within easy walking distance of all the amenities Coniston Village has to offer and is a great base from which to explore the Lake District. 18th May 2013 - Refurbished Cottage, Hollin Bank Barn

The much loved Hollin Bank Barn has had a make over.

Work has now finished on the new bath/shower room as well as being redecorated through out. A new large entrance hall for storing wet gear.

This is a beautiful cottage with great views.

7th April 2013 - New Cottage, Ash Gill Cottage

Ashgill Cottage is a much loved cottage, built by the owner's family 30 years ago and recently totally refurbished with a lovely contemporary feel.

Sleeping 6 in 3 bedrooms, Ashgill Cottage is deceptively spacious, and has a real relaxing feel.

The famous Wilsons Arms, and The Church House Inn are 3 minutes walk away if you don't feel like cooking!



3rd April 2013 - Spectacular Scenery

Ziggie was out today making the most of the glorious sunshine and enjoying a walk up the fells.

The tops of the fells are still snow-capped as you can see from the photo to the right.




31st April 2013 - Swallows & Amazons to set sail again

Filming of a new film adaptation of Arthur Ransome's Swallows and Amazons is due to start around Windermere and Coniston this summer.

At the southern tip of Coniston Water is Beacon Cottage , once the stables for the now long gone Lake Bank Hotel. Well established on the Victorian tour route, it is reputed that Arthur Ransome visited here, that Ruskin drew from the crags doted about, and that characters in Swallows and Amazons were based on children residing at the hotel.

Riverside Cottage in Torver is perfect for re-creating the adventures of the Walker and Blackett children. The cottage benefits from access to Coniston Water where you can launch a dinghy and set sail for Wild Cat Island.

9th January 2013 - New Cottage, No. 6 The Forge, Coniston

No. 6 The Forge is nestled within a row of cosy terraced cottages, originally built to house the Copperminers working in the beautiful valley above in the 19th Century.

This stone and slate built cottage has the advantageous positioning of being set back from the hustle and bustle of Coniston, yet is just a few minutes walk from the village centre.



4th January 2013 - New Cottage,

Netherbeck Cottage, Haws Bank, Coniston

Available from February this much loved stone built attached cottage was built about 60 years ago on the outskirts of the village. Netherbeck Cottage is within easy walking distance of the village, lake, and footpaths to the fells.

Over the last few years Netherbeck Cottage has undergone a full refurbishment and now has a new contemporary kitchen, new cloakroom/bathrooms, new and refurbished oak and pine floors and new carpets throughout to bring the cottage up to a very high standard.
