Located down a quiet country lane Widgeondale Cottage is situated not far from Duddon Bridge with open views across the serene Duddon Estuary. Upon opening the front door you instantly feel welcome, a real home from home. This quaint stone barn conversion is the perfect retreat for couples looking to escape it all, adventurous families and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
From the stepping stones across the front lawn, entrance to the cottage can be found under the traditional Lakeland style open sided porch. A stable door invites you into the cosy dining area full of charm and character with its exposed feature timber lintels. The cottage kitchen can be accessed directly from the dining room, offering 180° views across the estuary and towards the Kirby Fells & to the left hand side of the kitchen, views down the Duddon Valley towards Coniston Old Man and Scafell in the distance can be enjoyed.
The inviting sitting room offers spectacular views across the estuary from the polished wood window seat, the perfect place to catch up on a great read or simply watch as the world passes by. This room has retained many of its original features from the exposed feature beam to timber lintel and recessed stone display, all adding to the quirky character of the cottage. The central focus of the room is the wood burning stove which amply warms the room and downstairs living area. Should curling up in front of the fire not be enough to entertain you during your stay then the cottage also enjoys Wi-Fi and Sky TV.
Following the stairs up past the feature open faced stone wall you will find the house bathroom with shower over bath and the two smaller bedrooms, each of which with a single bed, built in storage areas and unspoilt views across the estuary, great for smaller family members to claim a den of their own.
Another set of winding stairs leads to the master bedroom, a light and airy attic room with views from the sky light towards the Lakeland fells. The master bedroom offers a bright and private hideaway for the grown-ups, complemented by a feature bed and antique furniture.
Outside you will find the deceptively spacious cottage garden, a lawned area to the front complete with seating area offers to perfect spot to enjoy a morning cup of coffee as the sun dances over the estuary. Away from the lawned front garden a private stretch of grassed land leads up behind the property onto the hillside and into an area of private woodland, perfect for the avid explorers in your family. This delightful garden offers several secluded areas which are perfect for sitting back & enjoying the surrounding woodland, estuary and fell views.
The location of the property means it is perfectly placed for exploring the southern & western peninsulas and surrounding lakes areas. In the nearby Duddon Valley there are many walking routes and bridleways for bike rides linking the valley into areas beyond. Further details from the owner on local walks and attractions can be found within the property. The beauty of this cottage is that it really does enjoy the best of both worlds. A traditional country cottage in an idyllic location, combined with the proximity of all local amenities. The quaint market town of Broughton-in-Furness is a mere 2 miles drive away, offering a selection of shops and quaint country pubs. The traditional Lakeland villages of Coniston and beyond can be reached within 20 minutes by car. The beautiful western coast is a mere 20 minutes’ drive away in the opposite direction, with a coastline offering a section of vast & peaceful beaches, from Silecroft up to St Bees. Other western gems such as the beautiful Wasdale Valley are under an hour’s drive away.
