The facilities of Elterwater village, including the Langdale Hotel and Britannia pub are within a half mile. In the opposite direction, deeper into the valley, you will find both Dungeon Ghyll Hotels and the National Trust owned Sticklebarn bar, restaurant and event centre are within easy reach, and all are at the feet of the iconic Langdale Pikes.

|This was our 4th visit to Herdwick Place. Absolutely love all the improvements that have been made. Hooray for the new TV. A very beautiful and tasteful new home. Thank you.|

|The Langdale Valley is a treasure - so much walking and it can all be done from the front door of Herdwick Place. The house has everything we wanted and it was great to have a good pub within walking distance.|

|Our first words on entering through the front door was 'Wow'. From the road the house looks quite ordinary but is quite unusual in design inside. A spiral staircase goes down to the lower level, where there is a snug and the back door and lots of space for boots and rucksacks. Another spiral staircase leads up to the bedrooms. The lounge has a lovely leather sofa with cute cushions with pictures of Herdwick sheep on and the most enormous TV we have ever seen in a holiday cottage. The local Lakeland slate is reflected in the kitchen worktops and bathroom floor. The cottage was immaculately clean and very well equipped with everything you could need and all the kitchen utensils were nice and new, There was plenty of storage space and lots of coat hooks. The only thing we felt was missing was maybe a nest of coffee tables in the lounge. New owners have recently taken over the cottage and are replacing many items. The dishwasher didn't work but apparently a new one has been ordered. We were informed before the holiday that there would be no wifi as the provider was being changed but we had no mobile phone signal either (O2) however wifi is available at nearby Wainwrights Inn and mobile signal is available on every fell top ! The cottage is well placed for walks from the door, we took bikes and the new waymarked Langdale Trail to Skelwith Bridge is good and all off road. Wainwrights Inn served very good food and the Tuesday quiz night was good fun. This was one of the nicest holiday cottages we have stayed in, a dishwasher and wifi would have been icing on the cake.|

|WOW! What a lovely surprise Herdwick Place was!
We usually go for older looking cottages, so this was a bit different for us - but we were thrilled as soon as we walked through the front door! Lovely, cosy and had everything that we could have needed for our stay (3 adults and 2 woofers). Yes, the TV in the main lounge is small, but the fact that its HD more than makes up for its size and there is an additional huge TV in the snug downstairs. Wi-Fi was a great bonus too. The spiral staircases give it great character
Fab views from the window seat in the lounge and from both bedrooms. Very comfy beds, one being en suite.
Great walks from the front door and The Wainwrights pub provided us with great food, beer and a very friendly welcome.
We will most definitely return, thank you!
Ps - what I really like and appreciate, is the level of cleanliness from the Coppermines Cottages that we have stayed in too.

|We had a lovely week, the cottage suited us perfectly. Thank you!
We very much enjoyed some low key hiking (no big peaks) but the most delightful surprise was Kurt Schwitters Merz Barn and the story behind it. A witty, resilient visionary modern artist, very cool!

|The perfect location for a short walking break. We loved the cottage, its unusual layout and most importantly its views and immediate accessibility to walks.
Cottage in the most perfect location, could easily move to Chapel Stile for its facilities, views and accessibility to the central fells.

|We've had the most amazing week up here in the Lakes. It's been sunny & bright every single day and we spent over half of them up in the hills and the other half at the Wainwright Inn. Don't miss the opportunity to walk half way up Pavey Ark to spend some time at Stickle Tarn - you won't regret it. Herdwick Place has been a joy to stay at and the location is just about perfect,. We will be back!
