  • Fantastic location
  • Large private garden
  • Perfect for families

Heading out of Coniston towards Hawkshead, just before leaving the village, there is a stone bridge over Yewdale Beck. And just over that bridge is the detached slate Smithy Cottage, formerly the village blacksmith. Though on the village outskirts, Smithy is still within easy walking to the pubs and shops.

It's a tight narrow turn into the parking area but there is room for two vehicles. Smithy Cottage is full of character and period fittings. The kitchen has old fireplace and beamed ceiling but thankfully the equipment is all bang up to date. There's proof that this was once a family home - on the wall preserved under plastic, are the ever-increasing heights of the family children. The living/dining room is enormous and continues the 'new meets old' theme. Two sofas face a modern fireplace with log burning stove; old insert drawers and plates on the walls hark back to a bygone age; a bay window allows visitors to daydream looking out over the beck, bridge and fells beyond. A door leads out to a narrow terrace that looks down upon Yewdale Beck. Past the kitchen is a second living room, dominated by an old range, views of the river and its own TV. Ideal for some quiet time or a place for the kids to call their own. Upstairs, a long landing leads to bedrooms with old wooden floors, views of the garden, fields and the fells around Coniston.

Smithy provides location, views, flexibility, charm and character all in one cottage. Whether you're a group of couples or friends escaping work life or a large family enjoying a countryside break, Smithy will work for you.

*Please note that the access driveway to Smithy Cottage is shared by a neighbouring property - therefore the access is not private.
