- Walking distance of village
- Fantastic views over Coniston Water
- Perfect for for couples and small families
Old Quarry is an end-of-terrace slate cottage up at the top of The Banks, on one of the highest roads in the village. It's one of a row of traditional small Lakeland terraced cottages built in the early C18th that were homes to the local mine workers. These cottages on Thurston Bank are all built the same and were allocated to the workers while the management lived on roads below. Their loss, as the views from up here, are just the best!
You enter into the slate-floored kitchen-diner; modern fully equipped wooden units juxtapose with the old fashioned Belfast sink in the window. The living room with recessed shelving and its slate open fire also give you a sense of old cottage life. A patio door leads you out onto a small terrace, with stunning views across to Coniston Water: a perfect spot for doing nothing but relaxing and enjoying the moment. There's a steep path down the garden. Upstairs there's the double room with the view, and one without. If there are four of you, you'll have to share, it's only fair.
