Crag Cottage is in the middle of a terrace of Grade II listed, 18th century, quarryman cottages spectacularly situated under Yewdale Crag at the 'Far End' of the village of Coniston. Built of Lakeland stone with thick walls and an open fire, it is the epitome of a traditional Lakeland cottage.
Although over two hundred years old the cottage is cosy, well equipped and has recently undergone refurbishment and redecoration, with new gas central heating and WiFi connection. With its many antiques, prints and pictures, the cottage is furnished with a combination of quality and comfort.
As well as its delightful character and charm, what makes Crag cottage special is its superb location. Perched right on the fells on a little lane at the edge of the village, the cottage is a 5 minute walk from Coniston's numerous pubs, cafes and shops, but away from the hubbub. The Cumbrian Way footpath and cycle route runs behind the cottage giving direct access onto the Old Man, Wetherlam and long walks/rides further afield. As guest recently commented "the cottage is so well placed for everything we want to do. It's really good to be outside the village but close enough to be able to forget about the car and walk everywhere when we are there".
There is a small patio at the front of the cottage which acts as a little sun trap and has a bench and table to enjoy the views across the fields and woods to Grizedale Forest and the lake in winter.
You enter the cottage through a little porch which is an ideal place to dry out walking boots and damp clothes. The oak beamed living room is divided by a large, comfortable sofa into a seating area with open fire and a dining area large enough for 6. A large selection of games, maps, books and DVDs are also provided. The well equipped kitchen is situated at the back of the cottage from which you can out the back door and walk straight onto the fells. Perfect for four legged guests.
Upstairs there are two charming bedrooms with beautiful views over the countryside; a bathroom and a separate toilet. The master bedroom has a super king-sized bed which can be separated into twin beds if desired. The second bedroom has a very comfortable king-sized bed. Both have high quality bed linen and bedding. In the pretty bathroom there is an electric shower in addition to a bathroom suite.
There is a small patio at the front of the cottage which acts as a little sun trap and has a bench and table to enjoy the views across the fields and woods to Grizedale Forest and the lake in winter. There is secure storage for up to 4 bicycles in the outhouse at the back of the property.

|A lovely break and fabulous cottage… great to be back in Coniston walking in the Yewdale valley and a hike to Torver and back along the lake shore of Coniston, I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present! Thank you, Crag cottage is a true gem.
|Emma & Steve, Oct 2015|
|This has got to be the best equipped holiday cottage we have ever stayed in, and there’s been a few. Coniston and the lakes are always wonderful but this cottage has been the icing on the cake! Warm comfortable, everything you need, classy but still managing to feel homely. The only thing that would make it better is if it was ours! God willing we will be back.
|Tim & Leigh, Oct 2015|
|Fantastic weather, we enjoyed 3 cycle rides and 3 walks. Black Bull is the best local pub for beer and the Steam Bistro best for supper. For a night in Hutchinson's butchers have fantastic fillet steaks to cook up back at the cottage. Needless to say we loved the cottage.
|Maggie & Michael, Oct 2015|
|Our first visit to Crag cottage. After spending a number of years exploring the eastern fells, we have moved here to start on the southern fells. We are delighted with our base here, a homely well equipped historical property, superbly situated. Enjoyed every aspect of this cottage and hopefully will return to continue our exploration on foot of this area.
|Chris & Elaine, Sep 2015|

|Loved this quaint wee cottage, beds were fantastic, really comfortable AND super king size lovely bedding .Lovely rooms ..Kitchen well equipped . Comfortable couch and arm chairs . Log fire we put on at nights for the ambiance ..There was just the 2 of us but would have accommodated 2 couples no problem. We had our dog with us, there is a small fenced garden to the front with a bench which our dog sat out while I had coffee every morning, it was a little sun trap. The neighbours were very friendly as well, would definitely go back.|
|C.S, Aug 2015|
