- Romantic hideaway
- Bike storage & large garden
- Convenient location
Hidden away up the quiet lane past and next to the Ship Inn, just south of Coniston, is this C18th farmhouse. Now a beautifully refurbished quintessential cottage, where traditional meets modern. Bowmanstead is perfect for romantics, small families and outdoor enthusiasts.
A typical Lakeland porch invites you into the property and doubles up as an ideal place to leave your walking boots. There's even a stone bench to help. The living room is full of charm and character - beamed ceiling, massive stone hearth with real fireplace, big slate flags covered with rugs & a big cosy leather sofa ideal for curling up in. Up a couple of steps is a separate raised dining area with oak detailing, Lakeland prints adorn the walls and antique furniture complements the properties quirky character. By contrast there is a modern galley kitchen, with handcrafted slate worktops, big gas range, a lovely view to the courtyard out front & small homely touches lovingly chosen by the owner.
From the living room, there's a hidden narrow stairwell that leads you up, past the pictures of Herdwick sheep, to a landing with low beams (mind your head!). There's a very modern and chic bathroom with motion sensor lighting, with a comfortable double or twin bedroom next door. The master bedroom has a magnificent four-poster bed with gorgeous linen, complete with en suite bathroom/wet room and dressing area.
Adjacent is a beautifully designed terraced cottage garden, this private hideaway is a lovely spot to while away the evenings and catch the last rays of sunshine. The lower part of the garden offers a place to wander and admire the local slate structures dotted around whilst the upper area offers an abundance of seating areas, where you can gaze across to Coniston Water and the green hills of Grizedale behind. The owner of the property has hand painted signs to draw your attention to the newly extended parking area, bicycle storage and garden. There is also a dog kennel area, should you need to keep an eye on your four legged friend. Please note due to the nature of the terracing we recommend that children are supervised at all times.
Complementing the property is a bright and modern utility room, complete with washer, dryer, freezer and heating. This room also encompasses a drying rack perfect for hanging up wet clothes after a day exploring.
For those of you on two wheels, along with the lockable outbuilding which can easily fit 4 bikes comfortably there is an external water tap, handy for washing off and cleaning up.
Footpaths are close by, going down to the lake for the Cumbrian Way, or into the fells and The Old Man of Coniston. This cottage is a must for diehard romantics, friends, families or those seeking outdoor adventure from the doorstep.

|Very nice cosy cottage, just what we needed.
The cottage has been sympathetically updated without destroying the beautiful originality of the building.

|Fab weekend, very relaxing. Been to Coniston many times, but this is our first time at Bowmanstead Cottage. All facilities perfect, nice quiet location and next door to the pub. Perfect!
Food at the Ship Inn is highly recommended, lots of choice on the menu including Pizza which you can take away! We also went to the Black Bull in Coniston Village which was very nice. All in all nice stay.

|Back to Bowmanstead cottage for our second visit of the year. We came to enjoy more mountain biking in the area which was totally awesome. Cottage is fab and has everything we needed after long days in the saddle. Storage, washing facilities and drying room are perfect. Visited the pub next door for the best steak and ale pie (so much meat). We also visit the cafe at the Yewdale Inn in Coniston, they have giant cookies bigger than your head. We plan to return to Bowmanstead very soon.|

|First time at the cottage and we will definitely be back again, such a charming cottage, perfect location. The Ship Inn has lovely food and a good price too and very friendly staff. We stayed for 3 nights with our dog, perfect cottage with walks right with your door step. Can’t wait to book again.

|Our second stay at this cottage which is a huge compliment as we have visited the Lake District for the last 12 years, twice yearly and this is the only cottage we have ever returned to!|
|M.M, Jun 2016|
|Thank you, we had a lovely stay for our 12th wedding anniversary. Very central for walks. Handy and friendly pub next door.|

|Our second stay at Bowmanstead Cottage. The cottage is still as lovely as before. Great en-suite, well equipped, perfect location, super walks from the front door and great pub next door. The weather has been amazing, the hottest and driest we've every experienced in the Lakes, and we visit twice a year, and have done for the past 12 years. Highly recommend the food at the Sun Inn, only a stroll along the old railway line and down the hill, nice pint there too. The Artizan shop in Coniston does the best ice creams as well.|

|Beautiful cottage in a lovely location. Great room for washing and drying clothes after walking. Lovely bathrooms, everything we needed in kitchen to prepare family meals.|
|C.E, Mar 2016|
|We we very happy with the provisions for cyclists, makes life so much easier to have good bike storage and use of hose. So many other companies advertise as bike friendly and when you arrive there is no bike storage. So thank you Coppermines.
|Mr & Mrs Dawson, Mar 2016|
|Really enjoyed my stay. Loved the cosy and comfortable sofas and beds as well as the lovely bathrooms. The garden was really pretty and although we didn't use it much, it was great to have.
I really enjoyed climbing the Old Man of Coniston (took us 6 hours), we went walking at Elterwater, visiting Wray Castle (amazing play area), Allan bank, Tarn Hows and Grizedale Forest. Overall a great stay and I really want to stay here again.

|Excellent weather all week and not a spot of rain. Sunny, warm and clear which made the walking and climbing perfect. You must climb the 'Old Man' as it's on the doorstep - hard work but well worth it on a clear day. We walked across to the other peaks from here and could see for miles. The remaining snow was a bonus too.|
|W.B, Mar 2016|
|Excellent Cottage, the utility room a great feature for drying boots and the damp dog (with a towel), after one of the many lovely long walks direct from the cottage.|
|Jill & Mike, Feb 2016|
|Excellent cottage. Utility room is a great feature for drying boots and damp dog towels. Loved walking directly from here too. The Ship Inn next door served excellent food and the landlord is so friendly. If you plan a walk in Grizedale, the Eagles Nest in Satterthwaite is well worth a visit, great beer and very good food.|
