- Perfect for couples
Bank Top Cottage is in the rarified heights of The Banks, on one of the highest roads in the village. Bank Top is one of a row of traditional small Lakeland slate terraced cottages built in the early C18th, to home the coppermine workers. The cottages on Thurston Bank are all uniform and were the homes to workers rather than management, who didn't appreciate that the view got better, the higher you went!
Entering from the back of the house, through the entrance hall, takes you into the kitchen/dining area, where old-fashioned sink and taps meet modern conveniences. Standing at the sink, you can imagine what life was like back in those olden days. The wooden floored living area has two double sofas and a slate open fire. But the best bit is the patio door and what can be seen through it. The view over the village, across the lake and to the far eastern shores is breathtaking. This door takes you out onto a new large decked patio with fantastic views over the mature cottage garden to Coniston Water and the surrounding countryside and comes complete with garden furniture. The garden drops steeply with a path that leads to a viewing bench, ideal for relaxing and taking in the surrounding landscape. Upstairs, there'll be arguments as to who gets the room with the view and who gets to be kids (grown up or otherwise) in the bunk beds.
